When should I plant this perennial garden, fall or spring?
Posted by Milly in Garden & Landscape on 02 17th, 2009When should I plant this perennial garden, the flowers that I will be planting are Salvia, Perennial Phlox, Adam’s needle, Giant desert candle, Sweet Wiliam, Lady’s Mantle, Corepopsis, Boxwood, Crocosmia, Scabious, Prarie Mallow, Delpinium, Tree Mallow (Lavatera) and Penstemon. When would be the best time to plant them, so they all bloom the best next year? Thanks. Ps. this garden is about 15 feet by 9 feet, and full of these flowers. About how much should this cost in Canadian?

Do all bulbs come back year after year?
Posted by Milly in Garden & Landscape on 02 12th, 2009Do all bulbs come back year after year? I am looking at a book of flowers and most of them are bulbs. Some of the different flowers are Hardy Gladiolus, Ixia, Lilys, Ranunculus, Dahliias, Jalapa, Bleeding Hearts (which are not bulbs) and Freesia. Do all those flowers come back year after year? I think they do but not to sure.
HOw do you plan on designing your garden(s) this spring/summer?
Posted by Milly in Garden & Landscape on 02 11th, 2009hmmmm ….. Wish I could spend a lot more, but decided to plant on one side all blue gladiolus (around 30 I guess), in the middle a jiant spread of huge zinnia’s/color variety, then on the right side a slew of fushia w/white lillies (so expensive but very gorgeous flower indeed!) The background will be the biggest/tallest/largest sunflower possible/plant those every year. Aren’t sunflowers charming? and inexpenive ![]()
any idea’s for a nice border? some type of greenery that’s highly attractive, grows well in full sun?

What do you think I should plant in my garden next spring?
Posted by Milly in Garden & Landscape on 02 8th, 2009I am planning an edible garden. I already know what fruit I am planting, as well as the obvious others (carrots, tomatoes, etc).
I mostly need help with thinking of other herbs and vegetables that will be versatile, save money, and contribute to mostly-vegetarian meals.
I live in a zone 5 area and there’s plenty of space for growing. I’m willing to put in time and effort for the plants that are worth it.
I have blackeyed susans and shasta daisies in my garden. Do I cut them back now or wait until spring?
Posted by Milly in Garden & Landscape on 02 7th, 2009The flowers are pretty dead now. Do I have to let them alone so the seeds will fall, or can I cut them back so the bed looks nicer?
