In the Fall, how do you store gladiolus bulbs? Is the basement OK?

mandm asked:

I want to hear from people that do this and know what to do to have them be ready for spring planting.
I live in Nebraska where the winters get very cold. Is it still ok to leave them in the ground? Or do I have to dig them up and store them? I do not have a cellar, just a basement.

I dug up my gladioli. Some bulbs are purplish. Are these from different colored flowers?

Some bulbs are very yellow (not ill-looking, just colored), and others are pinkish/purple. I did not make notes of which had bloomed which color! I had bright red, white, pinkly edged, and pink blooms in the summer.

Patricia S asked:

Along with our activity director, I’m planning a May card party for our residents and seniors from the community. It will be spring/garden themed and we need a catchy name for it. I’m trying to avoid “Spring Fling” because it seems like everyone uses that. Does anyone have any different ideas? Thanks!

We are moving into a new house at the beginning of the month, and there is a plot of land I would like to garden in the spring. Do I need to do anything to the land now before it freezes to prepare it for planting in the spring? I plan to plant vegetables, sunflowers, etc.
Thanks

bbw_16 asked:

The way my porch is set up makes it hard for me to plan a flower garden. Instead of being higher off the ground, it is almost level to my yard. The concrete is about 2 inches higher than the yard, and there is a sidewalk going to it. Anybody have any ideas for a flower garden that would make it look awesome??? Thanks!

momofone asked:

We had a lot of bug probs this spring and summer in our veggie garden, many many japanese beatles and green horned catapillars (eww) and many others. I’ve read that the grubs from all these insects can live in the soil over winter and then they’re back again come spring. What can we do to avoid this problem?
