Posted by Milly in Animals on 09 29th, 2011“THE GREAT ESCAPE!” This is a Clip from the Movie “WINGED MIGRATION” (Le Peuple Migrateur, 2003) by Jacques Perrin. It shows a Hyacinth Macaw in the Amazon in Peru escaping from a Trapper’s Boat (probably a staged scene — powerful, nevertheless, in conveying the very real plight & suffering of these animals…). PLEASE also WATCH: “DEDICATED TO THE INDONESIAN PARROT PROJECT” by SecondChanceBirds and VISIT: www.indonesian-parrot-project.org They are headquartered in the US and their mission is to STOP the TRAPPING of wild Parrots by educating local people and helping them find alternative methods of income. Hyacinth Macaw destroys cage
Posted by Milly in Animals on 07 18th, 2011First I want to make it clear that this was a TEMPORARY CAGE. Kaiser already destroyed his first cage about one week ago which was much bigger. This cage has 6 mm bars, the last one had 5 mm bars. If you listen you can hear at least three welds snap in under 5 minutes. This is not the norm but can and does happen. Kaiser is only 2 years old. He was not doing this out of anger, or bordome (see all his toys and I was sitting in the room talking to him). He is just doing what normal macaws do, chew and destroy! in fact he loves the challenge now. If any of you plan to get a Hyacinth in the future please learn from this video. He has chewed through 2 cages but more importantly he has learned that it is possible and will continue to try with each new cage he gets. Is this a gamble you are willing to take??? My advice is to get your Hyacinth their forever cage in the beginning. SPEND THE MONEY. The potential for injury is great!!!
