Has anyone had any experience with gladiolus?

Gladiolus
DigitalDiva asked:

I am in zone 6 and was wondering about how long they bloom for. I want to plant some of them in the front yard, but not if they only bloom for a very short period of time.

if you plant them starting soon, and every two weeks until midsummer, they’ll bloom for you for the rest of the summer.

Once the spikes have flowered, they don’t hold their blooms, so you have to keep planting in order to have continuous flowers

they bloom for a short period of time but the trick is to plant some corms every 10 days or so until the middle of july and then you will get successive blooms.
    They are impressive looking.

If it planted with the frequency of 10 days , it will have beautiful
growth and the continuous flowers since the spikes won’t hold for longer period

My Mom used to plant gladiolas when I was little. They held the buds for a long time before opening and then it seemed they stayed fresh looking for a very long time. She knew just when to cut the bloom-stalk to add to a mixed bouquet. She left the greenery in place until it was time to let them go dormant and dig them up. She planted them in clumps in some areas and in rows in other areas. That was Zone 9. You could check with a Master Gardener for Zone 6 tips. They were Mom’s favorite flowers and she always said they were like a bouquet of orchids on one stalk. I’d say try them in a test spot this year if you’re skeptical. I think you’ll love them!
