Is there an way to make a little hydroponic growing unit for one plant in my small apartment?

hydroponic
Ryan asked:

Just was wishing to make a small hydroponic growing unit for one plant in my small apartment. I don’t have too much room and am not wanting to spend a ton of money on a real, professionally built unit.

Thanks.

You could make one out of thick, strong cardboard, paint the insides flatwhite, reinforce with ducktape, cut a hole in the bottom and top for ventilation, maybe a small computer fan as well.Depends what type of lighting you are using,if you want to grow in soil,or hydro. The main thing would be to make sure what ever was supporting your lights was strong enough. If i were you just use potting mix in a 3 gallon container.More info would be good.

Yes, Ryan. A small fish tank would do. You just put in the plant and then lightly spray it with water and put a glass top on it to keep the moisture in. Look up terrariums at the library to get more challenging and adventuresome ideas. Good luck and Enjoy !

    what a novel idea……..
here is what I think… get one of those small indoor fountains and put your plant in it.
It would be better if the water is circulating to keep oxygen at the roots . think about how people have water plants in little pools outdoors. You might also consider a small grow light to hang over this…. it would also be a good way to “accent” your plant…..
    good luck

You are going to get in trouble.

The simplest one I’ve built was with two 5gal buckets a small fountain pump ($8 on eBay) and an aquarium air pump ($1 at yard sale) in an ebb and flow system. When placed in a sunny window with 4 supplemental 13W “Lights of America” sunlite compact fluorescents ($12), I was able to get cherry tomatoes to fruit. RScott
