Container Gardening: Container Herb Garden
RecipeCook asked:
Container gardening is a great way to grow plants, vegetables and herbs without needing a lot of space. Herbs do especially well and can be grown right outside your kitchen door. In this video, you’ll learn how to use an old farmer’s market basket to make a great container garden. Fill it with your favorite herbs and your cooking will be full of flavor all summer long.

No, the flavors don’t “cross over” or co-mingle. You can mix & match but be mindful of annuals which may need more watering than some perennials. ~R

I was wondering if they sort of co-mingle or grow mixed. Sort of like having two flavors from two different herbs in the same planting box. I dont remember what its called.

Nice video, I want to start a garden of my own, but I have a quite small yard and very little privacy for gardening or anything else.

I grow herbs all the time in my garden. But I just can’t part with them to eat them. Is there help?

How can I tell if they’re fresh? I got them from Home Depot, they come in the green pack that say organic and at the bottom it says “Guaranteed to grow”. I live in a hot climate it gets about 90 degrees. Is it better to grow them inside under a florescent light?

Make sure they’re fresh seeds from this year. Cover with about 1/4″ soil – pat it over the seeds, water gently and keep moist. Outside they should sprout in about a week. ~Rita

Thanks for the post! I hate yardwork, but I love to work in my Garden. I just found out, that when my great, great grandfather came over from Germany, he did the same thing!

Isn’t gardening a fantastic way of making a joyful life? Did you know that my Father in heaven created every herb and tree in the whole world. Jesus loves you. Oh, you forgot to fill the spaces between the plants in the basket with soil.

Thanks for the note. Most herbs like at least half a day of sun so you may be ok. The flavors may not be as intense as a full day in the sun, but it should work. ~Rita

Hi Rita, this was a great video. I have just one question. Would I be able to plant those herbs in a mostly shadey spot, there is some afternoon and evening sun?
