I dug up my gladioli. Some bulbs are purplish. Are these from different colored flowers?
thisbrit asked:
Some bulbs are very yellow (not ill-looking, just colored), and others are pinkish/purple. I did not make notes of which had bloomed which color! I had bright red, white, pinkly edged, and pink blooms in the summer.

None of them look ill.. When they mature, they develope a brownish skin , You dug them after bloom and before its end of season growth was finished. Young flesh of most bulbs will oxidize when dug prematurely. the purplish was ‘greener’ than the yellow bulbs..

The different hues on the bulbs are because of the various stages of growth and color of it’s blossoms.

The yellowish bulbs are usually white or a light colored flower. The purpleish colored bulbs will be red, purple,or a deep pink.Hope I helped! Keep diggin’ in the dirt.
