Gladiolus flowers for bridesmaids?
BTB ’09 asked:
I was thinking about doing lilies for my bms, but then I saw a flower called gladiolus, and they are awesome. They are long with several blooms on one stem. I saw pics of another bride who had these, and the girls carried them cradled in one arm since they are so long. Question is- if they carry those will it look okay if I still carry tulips?

They will be tricky but your florist can really point out some really nice bouquets to use them in. You may have to snip the floral tops off if you want them in a nosegay or they can just carry them in an “arm bouquet.”

Oh I LOVE these!! I don’t see how it would be a problem with the tulips… Another suggestion, and something different (I know some of you may disagree) but, why not get baskets for the girls? It would be great for an outdoor wedding.. And you can have the gladiolus lay with the tulips..

May I be completly honest here?
If you want them to hold a single stem and cradle them, well, that look is not very elegant. The stem is about two feet long!
There is a way you can get around the stem thing: You can actually make a bouquet with gladiolos. I skilled florist will be able to cut the blooms and wire them together and make an actual bouquet.
I used orchids on my wedding and my florist made stems for the blooms are wire them as a regular bouquet. My bouquet was awesome!
Good luck

I see no reason that there would be a problem. Is your bouquet an arm one also? I think that perhaps the bouquet style should be similar but ask your florist her opinion and design ideas. Personally I love the choice you made. Additionally the arm carried bouquets are so unusual these days. Everyone has the same bouquet style nowadays.
